Serenade on the Beach

About the Artwork:

This was a commissioned piece for Mark McKensie of Texas. Mark is the gentleman on the Harley Davidson, which he owns. He is looking in admiration at the Mervixin playing her harp in a rocky ocean cove at sunset. The Mervixin's 'vixen' half is a Gray Fox and the 'tail' half is a Dolphin. This piece was commissioned for his wife for their wedding anniversary. I can only imagine that the Mervixin represents his wife in some way.
This piece was very challenging for me in many ways. First, this is my first painting of a vehicle of any kind. I'm quite happy with the way it came out. Second, the lighting was tough because technically, the figures should be backlit, in which they'd look like black silhouettes. However, that would make a lousy painting! I had to pretend there was a dim light source from the viewers perspective in order to illuminate the figures from the front.
