New CoC Character Occupation:
The Cultist.
Yup, that's right, a cultist. Here is my
tribute to the two Mythos gods that are not-so-scary
in Lovecraft's world. Bast and Nodens. The very
first criteria for becoming a cultist for either
one of these Elder Gods is to have some Mythos
experience. Your character should be somewhat
seasoned and left somewhat sane after his/her
run in with the Mythos. These lucky individuals
may want to know a better and more powerful
means of thwarting the Old Ones and their followers.
What better way than to learn from the "good"
cultists how to prevent the return of the Old
Ones? Fight fire with fire, I say!!!
Keeper's Note:
I know most of you may object to these ideas and
that's o.k. They do bend the rules of the game
a bit and not for everyone. I'm simply having
fun and sharing some of my insanities with you.
Lovecraft knows all about us "sensitive
artist" types, since he was one. I think
he'd find it in his heart to forgive me for
taking some artistic liberties with some of
his ideas.
Bast
My personal favorite! I have a separate
page devoted to Her here.
I am, as was Lovecraft, a feline fanatic. There
are two separate job titles your character can
be if they wish to join the Order of Bast. This
depends if you're character is male or female.
Females may join the Order as priestess'. They
can learn many spells and are given protections
and skills needed to defeat the Old Ones. However,
they tend not to use physical force, relying
mostly on their spells and knowledge. Males
are the warrior class of the Order. They use
heavy firepower and military tactics to blow
away the Mythos. Their function is to protect
the Sisterhood and wipe out bad guys. These
males are called the Sons of Bast or 'Bast's
Bastards' as an amusing nickname.
Both male and female members are subject
to three basic rules of the Order. One, love,
cherish and protect all felines; Two, revel
in earthly pleasures such as sex, food, drugs
and alcohol; Three, hunt down and destroy the
Old Ones and their plans.
As you can see, this makes them a very popular
cult. Back in Ancient Egypt, her cult was one
of the most popular-throwing all night orgies
in her honor.

Nodens
Nodens is a derivative of an ancient Celtic
King of the Gods. The mythology of the origins
of Nodens is convoluted and confusing. He has
represented everything from a god of war to a
god of healing. Lovecraft just used him as an
Elder God posed against the Old Ones and therefore
seemingly on mankind's' side. Well, in this write
up I have tried to combine all the elements of
the myths and Lovecraft's writings into one cult
following.
Welcome to the Brotherhood of Nuada! Nuada
was one of the Celtic spellings for Nodens.
Primarily male, there are a few female worshipers.
The High Priest is always male, however. Their
main function is to serve their god and fight
the good fight against the Old Ones. Since Nodens
represents war and healing, the means to the
Old Ones end can involve extreme violence or
the subtle route of sorcery.
