The Order of Bast

Basic Skills

Every member of the Order of Bast should have these CoC skills at at least 25% or higher. If you don't, the Order will provide teachers to give your character these skills.

Sneak, Hide, Dodge, Jump, Climb, Swim, Knife, Fast-Talk, Disguise, First Aid, Read/Write Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs, Speak Arabic (Unless your character is Arabic, then Speak English)

These skills are in addition to whatever Knowledge or Firearms skills your character may possess.

Over some time, your character will learn skills in Occult, Kama Sutra and Cthulhu Mythos just by spending time in the Order's extensive library and performing the Rituals.

Skill Training

Here is what RuneQuest says on training a character. RuneQuest is another game that Chaosium puts out that is almost identical to the system in Call of Cthulhu.

First you need to find a teacher that has a higher percentage than you in the skill you wish to learn. Then the GM determines how long it will take to teach you this skill. At the end of the training session, you make a 1D6-2 increase/decrease to your chance with that skill. Note that you could go backwards. This is to indicate that you are totally confused and nothing stuck in your head. (There are lousy teachers out there). If you feel unlucky with the dice, you can opt to take a straight 2% increase to your skill without rolling. This must be announced ahead of time.

Basic Spells

Every member will be taught the following spells within their first year:

Contact Bast, Summon Cats, and Speak with Cats.

  • Contact Bast: Caster spends 1POW point and 1D6 MP. There is no Sanity loss to Contact Bast for a member of the Order. The caster then has half of their Luck as a chance to contact Her. NOTE: The Luck is modified since you spent a POW point! Add 10% chance if you are in a Temple of Bast. The Caster may keep trying to contact Her by spending POW. On the second and subsequent tries, the Luck chance is not halved, but is still modified by the POW loss. If/when successful, a projection of Bast will contact the caster for 1D6 hours. In this time, the caster may ask Her anything and it is up to the GM what Her mood will be. She will always start out friendly. If the caster ticks Her off, she will immediately break contact and perhaps deliver some sort of punishment.
  • Summon Cats: Spend 1MP per 10% chance to summon 1D20 felines of any kind to the area the caster is in. Add 5% chance if you throw catnip into the air while chanting. The cats must travel normally to get to the caster, though. It's the GM's call as to how far away the cats are and how long it will take for them to reach the caster. There is no Sanity loss for a member. NOTE: There is no Bind spell in existence. The cats will do whatever they want when they get to you. Anyone who has ever been owned by a cat will know there is no way you can make a cat do what you want (unless they feel like it)!
  • Speak with Cats: This spell will work on any feline and they must be present with the caster. Spend 1 POW point then match the caster's INT with the feline's INT on the Resistance table to find your chance. The chances are that it will be high (hopefully!). The caster then has 1D6 hours to then converse with that one feline. The feline will understand you and vice-versa. There is no Sanity loss for a member. Again, there is no Bind involved here, so the feline can decide she doesn't want to talk to you. It's up to the GM to play the feline and to portray their intricate moods.
  • Females only! POW Drain: This spell is preformed only during their sex rites in the Temple of Bast. It is only used on willing Drones and never on the Sons of Bast. This spell can be reversed so as to give POW as well as take. The reverse is often used to strengthen the Sons of Bast. Spend 1D8 MP. Match POW vs. POW on resistance table. Add 10% chance to the Order member because she has a willing subject. If successful, she collects 1 pt of permanent POW from him. If failure, she only loses the 1D8 MP, but will regain them with rest.

Special Skills for the Sons of Bast

The Sons of Bast are somewhat of a crack military team not unlike the Navy Seals. They learn tactics and train together. Each member must have basic training then they specialize in a certain area, such as demolitions or communications. In addtion to what I've outlined above, the Sons of Bast must get the following basic skills at at least 25%:

Handgun, Rifle, Fist, Kick, Grapple, Headbutt, Drive Auto, Tactics and Cthulhu Mythos.

After this training is finished, you then become a specialist. Here are the six categories and their skills These skills must be 35% or higher:

  • Sniper: Sneak, Lockpick, Track, Conceal, Camouflage, Track, Hide, Climb, Disguise, Spot Hidden, Listen, Scrounge, Rifle

Special Spells for the Sisterhood

The Sisterhood of Bast spends some of their time in the 'real world'. Most low ranking members are students or have other jobs. However, the higher ranking members spend their time learning the special spells and rituals that Bast offers them. These can be nearly any spell out ot the Call of Cthulhu rulebook, but keep in mind that they are generally, "good" and don't have much need to Summon Yog-Sothoth. Here are the more advanced and widely used spells at their disposal:

Heal, Deflect Harm, Elder Sign, Dust of Suleiman, Voorish Sign, Enchant Knife, Enthrall Victim, Create Gate, Summon/Bind Nightgaunt, Summon/Bind Dimensional Shambler, Power Drain, Seal of Isis, Voice of Ra

Th Ritual Spells are usually done to Power Drain the Drones or Power Give to the Sons od Bast. Rituals are also done to do a mass Healing spell. Both rituals usually take all night and involve orgies that would make Larry Flynt blush.
